Joint program on teamwork in optimizing orthognathic surgical outcomes
dr. bill hangDDS (oRTHOTROPICS)Dr. Bill Hang has been preparing cases for Orthognathic Surgery and finishing them after surgery for almost 46 years. Dr. Hang has a wealth of knowledge on the critical things that are rarely done but optimize the surgical success in these cases. The outcomes of surgery are no better than the orthodontic preparation, and Dr. Hang has added a number of new things to his practice protocols to optimize success. Dr. Hang will be outlining the specific details of all this in the seminar.

dr. soroush zaghiMD (ENT, SLEEP SURGEON)is a Harvard trained M.D., a UCLA trained ENT, and is Stanford trained in sleep. His pedigree is impressive, but his knowledge about optimizing proper rest oral posture by helping people get their tongues out of their airways with tongue tie release is unparalleled. He’s writing the research articles, giving classes, and lecturing world-wide to make the medical/dental community aware of this incredibly important factor in success for these patients.

dr. reza movahedDMD (Maxillofacial Surgery)brings critical knowledge, skill, and research experience to illustrate why a counterclockwise rotation of the occlusal plane is critical to optimize the airways of most of these patients. He has intimate knowledge of how to treat the serious TMJ problems many of these patients also have. He’s had the surgery done himself to cure his OSA and understands it from the patient’s perspective. He understands when it is necessary and desirable to reopen previous orthodontic extraction spaces as part of the orthodontic preparation for these patients.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS SEMINAR
Anyone with an airway! Anyone who knows someone with an airway!
40% of the population over age 40 snores. 60-80% of people taking a sleep test are being diagnosed with OSA. EVERY dental practice is loaded with such patients. (Dentists and their staffs are not an exception to these numbers, either.)
Given that snoring alone (without an OSA diagnosis) is correlated with plaque formation in the carotid arteries (increasing the chance of stroke), anyone who snores or knows someone who snores needs to attend this seminar. Oral appliances are a short term band aid for the problem. CPAP (even if worn well) doesn’t provide a benefit of preventing stroke or heart attack. Many patients are seeking a more permanent solution for OSA. A casual review of the internet will help one understand that outcomes from orthognathic surgery are not great. It doesn’t have to be that way. Properly planned for, prepared for, and performed, Orthognathic Surgery can be an answer for OSA.
The triad of success in Orthognathic Surgery requires optimizing facial balance, airway, and TMJ health.
