Introducing 2018 Breathe Institute courses

​Since the formation of the Breathe Institute in early 2017, more than 350 patients of all ages have been treated for varying classes of ankyloglossia (tongue-tie/lip-tie) and are experiencing terrific results. 

In response to the overwhelming number of requests (domestically and internationally) coming in for speaking engagements, courses and lectures on our protocols, we are excited to introduce our 2018 Course Curriculum.

1. A Functional Approach To Frenuloplasty, which covers:
  • Tongue-tie diagnosis in children and adults
  • Identifying compensations for tongue tie
  • Pre/post-op myofunctional therapy exercises
  • When a patient is ready for the frenuloplasty
  • Surgical techniques using scissors and sutures
  • Hands on suturing workshop on synthetic tissue
  • Identifying the endpoints of release
  • Understanding the aftercare process
  • What to look for during post-op appointments​
and;
2. A Functional Approach To Sleep Medicine, focused on:
Session I:
  • How to assess, screen, and diagnosis of sleep-disordered breathing
  • Interpreting the results of sleep studies
  • Nose, throat, and tongue anatomy
  • Functional airway assessment
  • Upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS)
  • Individualized approach to treatment planning based on structure and function, as well as patient lifestyle and treatment goals
  • Overview of CPAP, oral appliance therapy, and surgical options
  • Sleep hygiene: healthy habits for healthy sleep
  • Introduction to myofunctional therapy and lingual frenuloplasty for sleep disordered breathing
Session II:
  • Advanced treatment for all ages
  • Maxillofacial Remodelling
  • MMA surgical options
  • Hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS)
  • Homeopathic and alternative options
  • The role of nutrition and weight loss
  • Practice Implementation
  • Advanced sleep hygiene and introduction to sleep training
  • How to treat in an interdisciplinary team fashion
The purpose of these course offerings is to give other professionals in the field the skills and tools they need  to most effectively help their patients experiencing airway issues, sleep apnea, snoring, tongue-ties, and lip-ties, as well as other airway obstructions and sleep disorders. 

With a patient centered approach, and a precision focused diagniostic regimen, these conditions can be addressed and treated for the betterment of our patients and our practices.

Dr. Zaghi and Sanda Valcu-Pinkerton will review and demonstrate Step by step surgical technique (scalpel and scissors and myofunctional therapy) will be presented with both infant and adults (different procedures for both) for surgical revision of ankyloglossia.

The objective of this course is to improve the outcomes of tongue-tie release surgery through group discussion and demonstration. Live surgical demonstrations will be performed.
